Board Maintenance

Cleaning:

  1. Scrape off food residue: After each use, remove any food particles using a scraper or damp cloth.

  2. Hand wash with warm, soapy water: Use a soft sponge or brush to gently clean the board with warm, soapy water.

  3. Rinse thoroughly: Ensure all soap residue is removed with warm water.

  4. Dry thoroughly: Wipe the board dry with a clean towel and let it stand upright to air dry completely.

Maintenance:

  1. Oiling: Apply food-grade mineral oil to the board to hydrate the wood and prevent cracking and warping.

  2. Frequency: Oil the board once a month, or more frequently if it's used often.

  3. Avoid soaking: Never soak the board in water, as this can cause warping and cracking.

  4. Proper storage: Store the board upright when not in use to ensure proper airflow and prevent warping.

Deep Cleaning (if needed):

  1. 1. Salt and lemon:

For stubborn stains or odors, rub a mixture of salt and lemon juice into the board and let it sit for a few minutes.

  2. 2. Baking soda and lemon:

Use baking soda and lemon juice as a natural cleaning and sanitizing solution.

  3. 3. Vinegar solution:

For sanitizing, wipe down the board with a solution of one part vinegar to four parts water.

Important Notes:

  • Never use dishwashers: Dishwashers can damage wooden cutting boards.

  • Avoid harsh detergents: Harsh detergents can strip the wood of its natural oils.

  • Use food-grade mineral oil: Do not use cooking oils, as they can become rancid and attract bacteria.
